How to have fun with prefab

2003 HOMES Magazine publishes prefabricated facade design as cover story.

A BIT MORE DETAIL

Frederic Akuffo developed a research strategy for prefabricated building systems, and consulted companies such as SAP, Archicad, AutoCad, Arup, Buro Happold and the BRE.

The report ‘how to have fun with prefab’ discusses and analyses:

– the typical English house type can be simplified for the use of prefabricated building systems, while still allowing for great flexibility and diversity.
– 3D and cost calculating software can be implemented into a creative design process, supporting multiple project teams.
– multiple suppliers can take part in the design process without compromising each other, giving valuable input on detailing and dimensioning.
– a partly virtual, partly real prefabricated part library can be developed with suppliers and university research units to form a building parts library.
