From Urban Design to Prefabrication: This scheme is the best example of our design methodology: to provide a continuous link from urban design, to site and floor plan layout, to construction, resulting in an optimised and efficient architecture that can be adjusted simultaneously during planning and construction, resulting in sustainable and well-balanced places people want to live in.

The site lies within the transition zone of the local town centre and the suburban area. Mediating between the two, the scheme provides a continuous brick volume that relates to the massing of the existing retail parade but addresses the height of the residential dwellings. In addition to this the design shows smaller, secondary render elements that respond to the small-scaled suburban architecture but address the height of the retail parade.

The urban design principle is linked to the site and internal layout as well as the facade design, resulting in a construction grid that can simultaneously respond to planning as well as construction parameters. The facade design is rationalized to three different window types that create variety through being arranged in different combinations. The scheme is compliant with the latest Code for Sustainable Homes & GLA standard.
