Very delighted to announce the planning approval of our scheme at Haven Green, Ealing. Home to London’s first Squash Club, the scheme occupies a heritage-rich back-land site next to Ealing Broadway station.
Sandwiched between residential back gardens and Ealing Broadway Station, the scheme rises from 2 to 9 stories, providing a 40% increase in density compared to the previously approved and NLA award-shortlisted proposal.
The traditional squash club is incorporated into the development as a meaningful asset. While providing 26% affordable housing the project offers a new marker for Ealing Station, re-invigorating a sense of place and identity.
The ‘hanging garden’ concept provides a transition device between the low-rise suburban context and the urban realm surrounding the adjacent station. The apartments have a distinct east/west visual orientation, which enhances privacy, and avoids overlooking for both the existing and future residents.
The project will be discussed at tomorrow’s Urban Design London talk as a good example for ‘Applying the Small Sites Policy’ where we have been invited to present.
