Peabody Trust

Cost effective housing

A BIT MORE DETAIL

Employed at HTA, one of UK’s biggest housing practices, Autors founder Frederic Akuffo headed a research team to further develop and integrate his proposal into a report on prefabricated buildings and cost reduction in housing for the Peabody Trust.

The analysis looks at HTA’s lessons learned and how the feedback from residents, Peabody Trust management and maintenance staff, and various constructors, has informed house type development.

The manner in which the buildings have been procured has allowed little in continuity of development beyond the pre-tender stages, resulting in lost learning and few cost benefits.

Our study suggests how the design and its construction might be developed using emerging technologies to create more choice for the end user and a more streamlined, cost efficient process for the client.

Partnering in the long term could provide design, supply chain and construction, and importantly, lifecycle and cost advantages.
